Best Brownie Recipe

Brownies are such a classic dessert, and this recipe combines all the best parts! The gooey chocolate with the rich decadence is perfectly combined here in what I consider the best brownie recipe out there. You’ll have to make them yourself though to find out!

Sliced brownie on plate

Brownies are an absolute staple in my home. You can never really go wrong baking brownies for dessert or bringing them to an event. Plus, they are a personal favorite of mine, so I definitely needed to share with you my favorite dessert!

Growing up, I used to make boxed brownie mixes all the time, but once I really got into baking, I learned how much better the homemade brownie recipes were. The boxed mixes have their place, but I absolutely love getting to bake brownies from scratch.

What I really love about from scratch brownies is how much thicker they are. When I compare the thin little brownies that are made from boxed mixes with this recipe, I can’t believe how long I was missing out on these delicious treats!

Whether you are wanting a special treat for your family or you want a tasty dessert for a potluck, these easy chocolate brownies are going to be loved by all. They are my go-to dessert for any big gathering, and I hope you’ll enjoy them as well!

Don’t forget to save this post for later! I would hate for you to lose a tasty recipe like this one!

Why is this the best brownie recipe?

Because I love brownies so much, I have tasted and tried many. This recipe beats them all by far. Some of my favorite aspects of this recipe are:

  • It’s simple: I don’t need any special skills or ingredients. Just what I already keep on hand in my pantry.
  • It is really easy: I love having easy recipes on hand that don’t require a whole lot of thought or attention.
  • It’s fast: With my little one always around my legs in the kitchen, I want quick recipes that deliver!
  • It’s delicious: I cannot explain to you how much I love these brownies! They are just so thick, chocolate-y, and delicious. You have to make them to understand!

How should you serve a brownie?

Brownies can be served in a couple of ways depending on your preference. One of the most popular ways is to serve a warm brownie with ice cream, or brownie a la mode. Also, you could serve brownie with whipped cream, but honestly, I most often enjoy just eating brownie by itself.

Do you need baking chocolate to make brownies?

For this recipe, you do not need baking chocolate. Because this recipe is without baking chocolate though, it does require that you use cocoa powder. However, I have not found that it makes a difference in flavor, and the cocoa powder allows you to whip up the recipe that much more quickly!

Can you make a homemade brownie mix?

Yes! You can make this brownie recipe in a jar, and then it will be ready ahead of time for you just like a brownie mix. Personally, I love having mixes on hand for when I am short on time, or for giving as gifts. You can find the Brownie Mix in a Jar recipe here!

Sugar is the third layer of the brownie mix

Can you make these brownies gluten-free?

I have not tried to make these brownies gluten-free. However, you could probably get away with using a gluten-free all-purpose flour mix of your choice. Since brownies are not really relying on gluten structure too much to keep them together, you could probably get away with it, but I have not tried this myself.

How do I know my brownies are done?

You will know your brownies are done when you can insert a toothpick into the center of the pan, and it comes out clean or with only a light crumb on it. However, if you like gooey brownies, you can take them out slightly earlier. Just don’t over-bake your brownies, or they will end up dry and crunchy!

Brownie Flavor Ideas:

If you love mixing in some tasty add-ins to your chocolate brownies, I have some ideas for you! You could add:

  • Oreos – Crunch them up and sprinkle them over the top or into the batter itself!
  • Chocolate Chips – Sprinkled on top before baking or mixed in to add a little extra richness.
  • Mint Chips – If you are a mint lover, this can be a tasty combination!
  • White Chocolate Chips – The white chocolate chips can add a richness to the brownies.
  • Cookie Crumbles – Sprinkle them over the top for a brownie-cookies mash-up!
  • Marshmallows & Graham Crackers – Make your own s’mores brownies!
  • Peanut Butter Swirls or Chips – Chocolate and peanut butter are a classic combination.
  • M&M’s – Adding these is a fun and colorful option.

Use these ideas as some fun options, or you can make up your own! Get creative with your mix-ins, but just make sure you make these brownies!
