Things to think about:

Why gift homemade brownie mix in a jar?

One reason why homemade brownie mix in a jar is such a great gift because it is a favorite treat ready to make whenever the person needs it. Most of the time we already have so many sweets and tasty things to eat right away at Christmas time. The treat is still here in the jar, but it is so nice to be able to bring it back out at a later time when it can be freshly baked and enjoyed.

How do you decorate gifts in a jar?

There are many ways to decorate your brownie mix in a jar. The most common is to cut out a circle of fabric to go over the top of the lid. Then tie it to the jar using ribbon, decorative string, or twine. If you use this method, then you are also able to attach the instructions tag for how to bake the brownies easily via the string.

What do you put on the tag for a mix in a jar gift?

For the mix in a jar gift, you will need to explain on the tag how to use or make the item. For example, if you made a jar brownie mix, you will want to give the person the directions for how to make the brownies. You can then attach the directions to the jar with some ribbon or twine and use it as part of the decoration.

How do you make a mix in a jar gift?

For those who have never made a mix in a jar gift, there are a few steps that I will explain a little more in depth here.

To start with, you will need a clean, quart sized mason jar with a lid. I suggest that you use a wide-mouth jar since they are easier to work with.

Flour is in the bottom of the jar as the first layer

The process of putting together your mix requires that you layer ingredients one at a time and usually in a specific order. This will create a pretty visual, but also, it can sometimes be important for when the mix is actually made.

Cocoa powder is the second layer of the jar mix

When you read the instructions, the ingredients will often be given in a specific list. The first in the list will be the first you put in the jar, and this means it will be the bottom layer. After each ingredient, you will need to pat down to compact it as much as possible. I often do this with a measuring cup. Then you can add the next ingredient.

Sugar is the third layer of the brownie mix

The only time you would not need to pat down the ingredients would be when you add a smaller amount of something, such a a teaspoon of cinnamon or baking soda. You can place these smaller amounts in the center of the previous ingredient so that they cannot be seen from the sides of the jar.

Continue to fill the jar in this way until all of the dry ingredients are in place. Then you will put on the lid and decorate as you desire.

The last thing you will need to do is make sure that you add instructions for how to make the mix into your intended dish. You can download and use the tags below, or look at them as an example. Another idea would be to direct them back to this post if they would like the visuals to help!
