Little Homestead Stocking Crochet Pattern

The Little Homestead Stocking just screams simple Christmas crochet pattern! It is the perfect addition to your holiday decorations, and I love how it is still very functional. While it mainly uses variations of one basic stitch, I love how this stocking is easy to crochet but isn’t lacking in the texture department!

Christmas time means brings out all of the fun crochet projects and patterns! Personally, I love all the variations of crochet stockings, so of course, I needed to add the Little Homestead Stocking to the blog!

Whenever I fall in love with a texture, I tend to use it in a lot of different designs. The stitch combination found in this crochet stocking pattern can be found in my Mini Homestead Stocking too!

Plus, the best thing about this crochet stocking is that it uses variations of the half double crochet for most of the pattern! I love designing beautiful textures with simple stitches, and this pattern definitely hits the mark.

Why you’ll love this pattern:

It works up quick!

The Little Homestead Stocking can be worked up in a couple of hours, which makes it easy to whip up one or a few depending on what you need. They even work well for market makes!

Easy construction.

Any project that is worked up in joined rounds with simple stitches and minimal sewing is easier for me to wrap my head around. This stocking is nearly no-sew, except for the hanging loop at the very end.

Texture for days.

The simple stitches do not mean the texture is lacking. I love the fact that I can create the beautiful texture of this stocking all by simply changing the placement of my stitches.

Little Homestead Stocking

Supplies:

• J/10 6mm hook
• Worsted weight yarn in 2 colors
• Yarn Needle
• Scissors
• Stitch Marker (optional)

Notes:

• blo – back loop only
• cc – color change
• ch – chain
• dec – decrease
• fhdc – foundation half double crochet
• hdc – half double crochet
• hdc 3lo – half double crochet in the third loop only (in the round)
• inc – increase
• mr – magic ring
• rs – right side
• sc – single crochet
• sl st – slip stitch
• st – stitch
• ws – wrong side

Gauge:

While gauge is not a huge concern for this pattern, the toe should measure 4.25 inches across when you have completed the first 6 rounds.

Please remember that the stocking can vary about a quarter of an inch without too much variance in the overall outcome of the pattern.

How to Crochet a Stocking Video Tutorial:

Directions:

Stocking Toe:

• Round 1: Create a mr, hdc 6 into the ring (6). Pull the ring tight, sl st to join, & ch 1.
• Round 2: Hdc inc in each (12). Sl st to join, & ch 1.
• Round 3: *Hdc, hdc inc,* (18) Sl st to join, & ch 1.
• Round 4: *Hdc in next two, hdc inc* (24) Sl st to join, & ch 1.
• Round 5: *Hdc in next 3, hdc inc* (30) Sl st to join, & ch 1.
• Round 6: *Hdc in next 4, hdc inc* (36) Sl st to join, & ch 1.
• Round 7: *Hdc blo* (36) Sl st to join, & ch 1.
• Round 8: *Hdc 3lo” (36) Sl st to join, & ch 1.

Repeat the last two rounds (7 & 8) for a total of 8 rounds or until round 14.

Stocking Heel:

The heel will be worked in rows and then folded over and seamed before moving on to the leg.

• Row 1: Hdc 16, ch 1 & turn (16);
• Row 2: Hdc dec, hdc 12, hdc dec (14), ch 1 & turn.
• Row 3: Hdc dec, hdc 10, hdc dec (12), ch 1 & turn.
• Row 4: Hdc dec, hdc 8, hdc dec (10), ch 1 & turn.
• Row 5: Hdc inc, hdc 8, hdc inc (12), ch 1 & turn.
• Row 6: Hdc inc, hdc 10, hdc inc (14), ch 1 & turn.
• Row 7: Hdc inc, hdc 12, hdc inc (16), ch 1 & turn.

Fold over and seam sides ws out with a sc stitch down to the corner seam. Fasten off and secure.

Reattach yarn on the opposite seam corner and sc through both sides. Do NOT fasten off. Ch 1, push the heel so the rs is out, and turn so you have the seam on the rs of your work facing you again.

Stocking Leg:

Next, start working along the back of the heel piece you just finished.

• Round 15: Hdc blo along the back of the heel (16) hdc 3tog in corner, hdc blo along top of foot piece (18), hdc 3tog, sl st (36 total). Ch 1 & turn.
• Round 16:*Hdc 3lo* (36). Ch 1 & turn.
• Round 17:*Hdc blo* (36). Ch 1 & turn.

Repeat for a total of 14 rounds until round 28 ending with hdc 3lo repeat; cc on last st to cuff color & sl st to close.

Cuff:

Now, you will be working ws out in rows, and then fold over to create the stocking cuff.

Ch 9,

• Row 1: In second chain from hook, *sc,* (8). Sl st to first stitch of the last round of the stocking. Ch 1 & turn.
• Row 2: *Sc blo* (8). Ch 1 & turn.
• Row 3: *Sc* (8). Sk 1 stitch from the last round of the stocking, and sl st in next. Ch 1 & turn.

Repeat rows 2 & 3 all the way around for a total of 36 rows. Then finish with a sc blo row, and sl st the edges of the cuff together. Be sure to insert your hook into the base ch and both loops from the last row of the cuff; fasten off and weave in ends.

Hanging Loop:

The hanging loop can be made two separate ways.
(Tip: You can use the stitch marker to mark where you would like to attach it in both cases, but this is not required.)

1.To create your hanging loop using foundation stitches, you will:

• Fhdc 16 (or until your loop is about 4 inches long). Fasten off, and leave a long tail for attaching to the stocking.
• Fold the loop so that the two ends are together.
• Use a yarn needle to sew the loop onto the back of the stocking opposite the toe. Fasten off, and weave in any ends.

2. To create your hanging loop with regular hdc stitches, you will:

• Alternatively, you could chain 17, and hdc in the second ch & across (16).
• Fasten off, and leave a long tail for attaching to the stocking.
• Fold the loop so that the two ends are together.
• Use a yarn needle to sew the loop onto the back of the stocking opposite the toe. Fasten off, and weave in any ends.

Congrats! Now you can hang your Little Homestead Stocking!
