The Mini Homestead Stocking is a quick crochet pattern that is perfect for the holiday season! With a lovely texture and simple stitches, this crochet stocking is the perfect intermediate beginner pattern. You can use it as an ornament, a gift card holder, or even just as a decoration. Grab your yarn and hook, and let’s get started!

Mini stockings are very popular these days, and it makes sense why. They are super adorable, and for crocheters especially, they are really quick to make! I personally love how versatile they are. Some options of how to use it might be: decorate a Christmas tree, hang it as a pet’s stocking, give it with a gift card, make several into a Christmas garland, or even simply hang them up around the house.
While I love large stockings, I really wanted to write a crochet pattern for a small one. Smaller stockings are easier to create for markets or to have on hand for quick, or last minute, gifts. However you use it, the Mini Homestead Stocking is a quick and simple mini crochet stocking.
What crochet level is the Mini Homestead Stocking?
The Mini Homestead Stocking is an intermediate beginner level pattern. There are a few parts that are harder to understand for beginners with little experience, especially those who have not worked in the round very much. I have videos linked below in the notes section to help you with stitches or techniques that may be more confusing for beginners. Also, there are pictures after each section to help you with the directions as you crochet your mini stocking.
What yarn should I use?
For my example stocking ornaments, I used two different types of worsted weight yarn. You can crochet this mini stocking with any worsted weight yarn. However, since you can use two colors of yarn, I highly recommend that you use two that are similar in size and material. Yarn varies a lot in thickness even within yarn weight category. If you are buying yarn specifically for this project, I recommend getting the same brand. This project is a great yarn stash buster as well though, so just be sure to compare yarn thickness before you start.

Supplies:
- H/8 5mm Hook
- Worsted Weight Yarn in 2 Colors
- Cuff & Hanging Loop: 6yds.
- Stocking: 28yds.
- Yarn Needle
Gauge:
Mini Stocking: Too small for proper gauge, but the finished size is about 5 inches long and 3 inches across at the top. Size will vary slightly depending on thickness of yarn.

How to Crochet a Mini Homestead Stocking
Stocking Toe:
Create a mr, and ch 1.
- Hdc 6 into the mr (6). Sl st to join, pull ring tight, & ch 1.
- *Hdc inc* (12). Sl st to join, & ch 1.
- *Hdc, hdc inc* (18). Sl st to join, & ch 1.
- *Hdc blo* (18). Sl st to join, & ch 1.
- *Hdc-3lo* (18). Sl st to join, & ch 1. *Remember that you’re using the third loop on the inside of the stocking! Check Resources section for help.
Repeat Rounds 4-5 until Round 8. End on a repeat of Round 4. Note: The first st of each round needs to placed in the same st as the ch 1! Don’t crochet into the sl st.

Heel:
Before starting the heel, decide which way you want the toe to point. If you want the toe to point to the left, then simply continue. However, if you want the toe to point to the right, turn your work before starting the heel. Pictures will show with the toe pointing to the left, and they will walk you through the steps (next page).
- Hdc 8 (8); ch 1 & turn.
- Hdc dec, hdc 4, hdc dec (6); ch 1 & turn.
- Hdc dec, hdc 2, hdc dec (4); ch 1 & turn.
- Hdc inc, hdc 2, hdc inc (6); ch 1 & turn.
- Hdc inc, hdc 4, hdc inc (8); ch 1.
Fold the heel piece over itself so that the ws is out. (It will be folded on the outside of the stocking.)
Sl st to seam the edges of the heel piece together starting on the side the hook is attached to. (Be sure not to stitch too tightly.) For me, this took 3 sts. Fasten off.
Reattach at the corner of the folded heel piece on the other side. Ch 1.
Starting at the corner, sl st to seam the edges of heel along the other side. Stop at the bottom of the heel section. Ch 1, & turn.
Flip the heel so that it is rs out. Continue to work in rounds from this point on.

Leg:
9. Hdc dec into the corner st and side of the heel, hdc 8 on top of the heel, hdc dec in the side of the heel and the corner st, hdc 10 (20). Sl st to join & ch 1.
10. *Hdc blo* (20). Sl st to join, & ch 1.
11. *Hdc-3lo* (20). Sl st to join, & ch 1.
Repeat Rounds 10-11 until Round 16, ending on a repeat of Round 10. Cc on last st to cuff color, and sl st to join.

Cuff:
*The cuff will be worked ws out, and then folded over after.
Ch 6.
- In second chain from hook, *sc* (5). Sl st to first stitch of last round of your stocking (the same st as the base of your ch). Ch 1, & turn.
- *Sc blo* (5). Ch 1, & turn.
- *Sc* (5). Sk 1 st from the last round of the stocking, & sl st in next st. Ch 1, & turn.
Repeat Rows 2-3 all the way around, finishing with repeat of Row 2 (20 rows). Then sl st the edges of the cuff together on the ws. Be sure to insert your hook into the base ch and both loops from the last row of the cuff. Fasten off and weave in ends. Flip the cuff over the top of the stocking, so it is rs out.

Hanging Loop:
The hanging loop can be made two separate ways.

1.To create your hanging loop as a separate piece you sew on, you will:
- Fdsc 15 (or until your loop is about 4 inches long). Alternatively, you could chain 16, and sc in the second ch & across (15). Fasten off, and leave a long tail for attaching to the stocking.
- Fold the loop so that the two ends are together.
- Use a yarn needle to sew the loop onto the back of the stocking opposite the toe. Fasten off, and weave in any ends.
2. To create your hanging loop as an attached piece (no sew), you will:
- Attach yarn to the top of the back of the stocking on the side opposite the toe.
- Ch 15 (or until your loop is about 4 inches long). Sl st into the same st as the base of the ch.
- Fasten off, knot securely, and weave in ends.
