Lately, I have been wanting to use the fabric yarn I created with our old bed sheets into something that would be useful for our home. A basket came to mind simply because with the move we made over the spring there are still many things that live in cardboard boxes, and I really want to start changing that. Thus, the first cardboard box I wanted to get rid of was the one holding all of my little one’s toys.

I wanted a sturdy type of basket that would be easy for him to get into, so not overly large, but would still be able to fit the amount of his toys that would be in the living room. The fabric yarn basket was the perfect way to meet these needs and allowed me to be creative with a somewhat new medium!

Great way to organize and declutter!

With this crochet basket, you can easily and quickly work it up! Plus because of the fabric yarn, it doesn’t take as much yardage as you would think. Whether you’re looking for a crochet basket pattern with handles or just want a beginner crochet basket pattern, this is the design for you.

The base stitch of this pattern is the single crochet stitch because it is easy to complete, and I really wanted the clean look it creates. I wanted to make sure that the basket wasn’t too fancy since it is for my little boy who is hard on things already!

Also, if you don’t have fabric yarn, then you can head over to my blog post that tells you all about how to make fabric yarn from old sheets!

To place the handles directly opposite of one another, you will need to place stitch markers on opposite sides of the fabric yarn basket. Pm in the first stitch (it doesn’t matter where, just along the edge of the basket), sk 26, and pm (a second marker).

Use a yarn needle and extra yarn or the long ends of the handle to sew the handles onto the edge of the basket.

Starting at the first stitch marker, sk 3 on either side and attach one end of the first handle to the edge of the basket at these points. Tie tightly, fasten off, and weave in ends. Then repeat with the second handle at the spot with the second stitch marker.
