Fall Coffee Flavors

Ahhh, fall. You are so refreshing after a long, hot summer. Between the chill of your mornings and the fact that I can now wear sweaters again, there are so many reasons you are my favorite season. Most of all though, I’m grateful that I can now drink hot coffee again without overheating like I do all summer. Fall, you are amazing! :’)

I don’t know if anyone else has this problem, but for my hubby and I, summer is the season of homemade cold brew. Because of our climate in the summer, hot coffee is rarely an option for us if we want to actually stay cool. So when fall comes again, I am so excited to use my french press or coffee maker to brew us some hot coffee. Sometimes I even want to start counting down the days…

When fall finally rolled around again this year, I decided to try some different flavor combinations that I could create with basic ingredients that I keep around the house. I didn’t want to have to get some special ingredient just to make coffee, so I opted for some simple items. Also, with a little one around, sometimes the coffee sits on the counter or table until I wonder why I am so tired and go looking for it, and I wanted flavors and ingredients that could withstand the microwave and still maintain the same flavor.

Out of the different coffee experiments I’ve tried so far this year, I have three that were my most favorite, and I just had to test them a few times. However, I don’t mind testing them as often as necessary.

What do you need:

  • Coffee: My hubby and I love making french press coffee, but you could use any method you prefer. I always make my coffee strong, so if you make weaker coffee, you may need to adjust the amounts of other ingredients to get your coffee just right.
  • Heavy Whipping Cream, Half & Half, Milk, or Alternative: I love my heavy whipping cream. It’s kind of an obsession. However, technically, you can make a breve with half & half as well. Milk will give you a latte instead if you prefer, and you can always use another alternative milk if you are dairy-free or vegan.
  • Brown Sugar: I love using brown sugar itself with hot coffee, but you could totally use brown sugar syrup instead.
  • Vanilla Syrup: You could use Torani or another brand. I make my own vanilla syrup at home.
  • Maple Syrup: I use all natural syrup because of the flavor and health benefits of maple syrup.
  • Instant Chai Latte Mix: You can grab my recipe here, or use a mix you love. It will need to be an instant chai latte mix to mix thoroughly into the coffee.
  • Cinnamon & Nutmeg: These two spices just speak fall to me, and are a great addition to coffee. They can take a normal, everyday coffee and make it fancy just by being sprinkled on top! If you aren’t a fan, feel free to leave them out, but I recommend giving them a try first.

Coffee Cake Breve

The Coffee Cake Breve has been a slow process in creating. I have loved adding brown sugar to my coffee for a while now, and recently, I thought of adding the vanilla to produce a flavor profile that reminded me of coffee cake, especially when topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon! This fall coffee is one you will come back to again and again.

  • 6-8oz. fresh brewed coffee, hot
  • 2-3 tbsp. heavy whipping cream (or cream of your choice)
  • 1-3 tsp. brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla syrup
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon (optional)

Mix together the cream, sugar, and syrup briefly. Pour hot coffee over the top. Stir together, and sprinkle cinnamon over the top. Enjoy!

If you don’t have vanilla flavored syrup on hand, you can make your own simple syrup with my recipe here!

Maple Leaf Latte

The Maple Leaf Latte gets its name from the maple syrup and my love of maple leaves in the fall. This drink has been a particular fall favorite of mine because of how simple it is with really only 3 main ingredients. Dirty Chai

Now, a Dirty Chai may be a common fall drink, but I feel like this one is special because it uses my homemade chai tea latte mix, which means its cheaper and I can make it at home instead of going to a coffee shop. Also, if you love chai, this combines the spicy, creamy goodness of a chai tea latte with the bold, strong flavors of coffee. Too good to be true? You decide. I will warn you though – this chai is very addicting.

  • 1-2 tbsp. instant chai tea latte mix
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon (optional)

Mix together the cream and chai mix in a mug. Pour over the hot coffee and stir to combine. Sprinkle a little cinnamon over the top if you desire. Sit down with a good book, and enjoy!
