Cupid’s Arrow Crochet Bookmark Details:

Crochet Level: Advanced Beginner

Yarn:

I crocheted my heart bookmark with a super fine (1) weight yarn from my yarn stash. You could follow the directions and use any yarn weight you choose, but for a bookmark, I think the finer weight yarns are a better choice. They will fit better in between the book pages.

Crochet Stitches:

To make the Cupid’s Arrow Bookmark, you will need to know the following stitches & techniques:

You will also be creating a tassel. In my video, I demonstrate how to create the tassel, or you can also use a pre-made tassel.

If you are unfamiliar with any of these skills, you can click on the links to find the full blog post tutorial on how to crochet each stitch.

Gauge:

The bookmark is too small for a proper gauge, but the heart size is 1 inch tall, the chain is 8 inches long, and the tassel is about 2 inches long. The total length is 11 inches as the directions state. If you wanted a shorter or longer bookmark, you could easily change the number of chains.

Tassel:

If you are creating your own tassel, you will follow these directions. I highly recommend watching the video portion to help you understand how to create the tassel.

Cut a length of yarn about 10-12 inches long. Set aside. You will use this to tie around the top of your tassel.

To create the tassel, you will be wrapping yarn around all four fingers of your hand 15-20 times.

To start, with the yarn from the skein, you will hold you the starting end between your thumb and pinky.

Wrap the yarn front to back 15-20 times. This creates the tassel body. Fasten off the yarn near your pinky.

Use the yarn piece that you set aside to wrap around the top of the tassel once and knot securely. (Note: You want to wrap around the area between your index and middle finger. This will create a loop at the top for you to attach it to the heart and chain piece. You may need to slip the loops off your fingers as you work depending on how tightly you wound the yarn.)

Slip off fingers (if you haven’t already), and cut the loops that create the bottom of the tassel.

With the rest of the first length of yarn, wrap in opposite directions and then knot securely and thread through the top of the tassel to the bottom.

Finally, line up all the tassel ends and cut cleanly with a sharp pair of scissors to make all the ends even.

Assembly:

To assemble, you will use a yarn needle to thread the long tail from the heart and chain piece through the loops at the top of the tassel. Then you will thread through the final chain and knot securely.

Then you can weave the end through the top of the tassel to the bottom and cut any extra length as needed. Weave in any ends that are left and you are finished!
